I don't believe in valentine

Written By Admin on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 | 1:55 AM

Valentine's Day is the 24hrs dedicated to open and public affection
for your loved one *this is not to say the other 364 days don't
count*. Gifts are bought, presents are given out, people are usually
surprised by their gifts and love is declared loud and clear *people
who aren't even in relationships have fun*

I'm actually not writing to describe the modus operandi of the day or
its history but the statement made by a friend several years ago. "I
don't believe in Valentine's" he said, that statement made me laugh so
hard I started to cry.

I digress

I'll confess, in the last four years I have spent Valentine's Day
alone. Either I'm out drinking with friends single like me or home
alone drinking a bottle of red wine *believe me a bottle of red wine
is so beautiful and it doesn't complain or nag… lol*. I spend this
special day alone *actually the day is special* because I'm never in a
relationship at the time not because I don't believe in valentine's
like my friend

Back to the story

That statement got me thinking, why should an individual not believe
in Valentine or express love to his spouse or partner on that special
day. Then I realised, my friend didn't want to spend his money on
buying gifts. Come to think of it besides your partner's birthday,
Valentine 's Day is the next time your account goes red. I must
confess some guys are stingy and they see Valentine's Day as the time
they have to spend their money and they resent it.

You might disagree with me but there relationships in which the guy
has never bought his girlfriend a gift or vice-versa

In the last 11 years I have witnessed 11 valentine's day and believe
me the gift exchange on that day is never equal, it's either the
girlfriend doesn't get her boyfriend anything * a kiss will do, can he
complain? She will just say aren't I worth more to you than a gift,
what does he then say 'sorry baby, you're one in a million…funny* or
the guy's gift will cost more than his girlfriend's. The thing is
girls don't necessarily need to impress boys but we boys need to
impress them *we've been doing that right from our primary school
days, if you ladies don't know* that's why our accounts go red
