According to recent reports D'banj's hit single "Oliver" has been banned by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commision. The alleged ban was reported to be due to "lewd lyrics" is said to cover the song's airplay on all radio and TV stations in Nigeria! The news threw fans into something of a frenzy towards the end of last week, with most questioning the reason given for said ban…
Producer Don Jazzy even took to twitter saying:
Tweeps pls worry not about the banning of Oliver o. e dey happen. we're kinda used to it now. Ijebu garri no dey do advert but e dey sell
This tweet confirmed the authenticity of the story. However in a strange twist NBC has come forward to refute the claims. Issuing the following statement
"We have no reason to ban any song that has no tendency to cause turmoil, crisis or affects the integrity of persons, individuals, groups or society at large" spokesperson to the National Broadcasting Commission says.
"There are many other rules and regulations which govern airplays on Nigerian broadcasting media and as far as I am concerned the song has not breached any and such reports indicating it was banned are untrue"
Very confusing indeed! Who do we believe? Or is the NBC back pedalling?
